Am I in?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is the new way to report Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA). Enter your gross income below and we'll tell you whether — and from when — it is mandatory for you.

Education, not advice. The number that counts is the one HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) calculates. We are working towards HMRC recognition; this tool cannot file to live HMRC. Only the clearly labelled practice flow can send figures to HMRC's sandbox.

What this means

TaxSorted can add the records you include exactly, but it cannot see your full situation, so those totals may be incomplete. Any tax estimate is only as good as the facts supplied. A sandbox receipt is practice evidence, not a production filing or a paid tax bill.

Gross income = money coming in before any costs. Example: £28,400 from invoices. It is the number most people get wrong — don't use your profit.

Start with the years you know. If a year is missing, we won't guess — we'll tell you exactly which year is still needed for a final answer.

If you're in, what happens next

Signing up is manual, and it stays that way — no software, including TaxSorted, can enrol you. You sign up yourself, directly with HMRC, on GOV.UK.
